Messaging

How Messaging Works

Curba has a built-in messaging system so renters and hosts can communicate directly about a booking — no need to share personal contact information.

Messages are linked to a specific booking, so you'll always have context about which rental you're discussing.

Starting a Conversation

Once a rental inquiry is sent, both the renter and host can message each other from the Inquiry Progress page. Just type your message in the chat box and hit Send or press Enter.

Real-Time Chat

Messages are delivered in real time — no need to refresh the page. You'll see new messages appear instantly as they're sent.

Typing Indicator

When the other person is typing, you'll see a "User is typing..." indicator so you know a reply is on the way.

Automatic Messages

Curba automatically sends messages in the chat when key booking events happen, such as:

  • Inquiry accepted or declined
  • Payment completed
  • Pickup details shared
  • Pickup confirmed
  • Item returned
  • Booking completed

These system messages keep the conversation thread as a complete record of the booking.

Notifications for New Messages

When you receive a new message, you'll be notified through:

  • In-app notification — A badge appears on the notification bell
  • Push notification — If you have notifications enabled

You can control message notifications from Profile > Settings > Notification Preferences.

Messaging Tips

  • Use the chat to agree on pickup and return times
  • Discuss any special instructions for the item
  • Keep all communication within Curba for your protection
  • Be responsive — quick replies build trust and lead to better reviews

When Is Messaging Disabled?

Once a booking is Completed or Canceled, messaging is disabled for that booking. You can still view the full message history for your records.
